Name:
KW Tower Safety Release
Item#:
KWtower
This is the finished product. The release operates by a observer who tugs on a tag line to release the rope. The solid design allows the rope to be released even if there is no tension on the line - as may be the case in a fall. The rope loop is simply held in place by the curved pin and the release lever.
This release was designed for the Master Craft towers (My X-9), but they will be available for Correct Craft, Malibu, and others as we get accurate measurements for the mount. Any tower with a swivel and 1/2" of clearance for the aluminum plate can be fit for this release. Please use a caliper or other highly accurate measurment device to let us know the bore size.
The picture shows the spring loaded lever with the tag line running through a hole in the release. This allows the release to be operated from the observer's seat. The loop under the release is short, so when you remove your tag line, it does not flap in the breeze. The Tower Safety Release Operator simply tugs the cord to release the rope when a fall is occuring.
A couple notes:
KW and Board It Up are not responsible for any injuries in connection with this product.
Use the end of the rope. If you have a loop of the rope dangling in the boat, it can get hung up when the rope is released. It will really hurt if you have that loop wrapped around someone in the boat and the rope is released. I will tested it with a velcro loop to hold the extra rope against the tower and it released the rope, but the loops were not released until it hit the water and provided some drag. Without anyone in the back of the boat, the trailing line was released instantly.
Be sure your rope and handle floats before you use the release. It is sad to see an expensive rope seeking the bottom.
Be very cautious when approaching a line floating in the water. The chances of running over your rope are high. Approach the rider from the side, and from behind. I coil my rope and hand the end to the observer who then hooks it back up to the tower.
Finally, if you are a kneeboarder riding in AKA (American Kneeboard Association) tournaments, you must use a release if you are performing a 540 or greater. This is the only release of its type. |
