Name:
KW Trick Release, Heavy Duty
Item#:
KWhdTR1
Hand Crafted by KW Show Ski Equipment. The heaviest duty release on the market and the standard of the industry for show skiers and disabled waterski with multiple skiers. Capable of taking the hardest pull. The rope will break before the release will. The trick release is operated by a trick release operator who will pull on a short rope (included, but not pictured) to cleanly release the tow rope. With an attentive operator, the skier's rope will be released BEFORE the skier hits the water. That is the safest condition to be in.
Although a relatively safe activity, all towed watersports carry the risk of being tangled in the rope or handle on a fall. A properly used trick release can reduce this possibility. This release is strong enough for slalom skiers. Slalom skiers sometimes take OTF (Out the Front) falls that sometimes result in the forarm passing through the handle. You can guess the rest.
Please pass along your boat information so we can make sure your release fits your pylon properly. This release can also be fitted to most wakeboarding towers. For this, we need a relatively accurate measurent of the lower part of the rope swivel on the tower. Your trick release will be custom sized for your application at no extra charge.
Safety note: having a released rope in the water increases the chance of running over the rope by a few orders of magnitude. Approach the fallen skier from the side or rear at dead slow. If the fallen skier can do it safely, have them pull the rope in. However, never let any part of the skier's body get into the coiled rope. That is called a "bight" - pronounced "bite," and for good reason. Take the entire rope into the boat and hand the handle back to the skier or rider to continue. That way you know no part of the rope is wrapped around the skier underwater.
The trick release should be used only on the end of the rope. Do not use with a extra rope coiled or laying about. When the rope is released, that rope will depart the boat in a hurry and will take anything along with it.
Two options for mounting:
Allen head cap screws - the cleanest appearance and nothing to snag. This is the prefered option and the default.
T-handle wing nuts with bolts. This option allows the release to be quickly moved from boat to boat without tools. You can snag on the T-handles, however. Be sure you can't have an allen wrench handy if you select this option. I keep both a metric and SAE wrench on the boat in a Zip Lock bag with a squirt of WD-40 to prevent rust. This allows for fin and binding adjustments and repairs. |
